We know that 3pm slump all too well, and we all have our favourite pick-me-up to get us through to the end of the day. In this video we are gonna lay out some natural tips so you don’t have to always reach for a caffeinated beverage.
What is the exact reason that our energy starts to dip at such a specific time each day? It's all to do with cortisol! If you’ve been following 5 Pillars for a while, you’re all too familiar with how this hormone works inside our body, but for our newbies, here's the short version.
Cortisol works in a particular rhythm and depending on our lifestyle, we may have dysregulated our natural levels. When our cortisol dips at 2 or 3pm, this is the energy slump we experience because cortisol is responsible for keeping us alert.
Here’s a few ways for you to stop that post lunch slump, and feel better than ever in the afternoon!
1. Choose foods that have a low glycemic index. This simple means foods that slowly release sugar into your blood. Things like sweet potato are a great example.
2. Make sure you get plenty of fruit and vegetables. The fibre in them really helps your body stay fully functioning, preventing that crash!
3. Stop having caffeine in the morning! We know, this sounds horrible, but hear us out. If you stop having caffeine first thing in the morning, your body can avoid the afternoon crash as the effects wear off.
