🔍: One of the most common questions patients ask before a procedure is, "How long is my recovery going to be?" Let's dive into the details...
🌟 Introduction: Hi, this is Dr. Shim Ching, a board-certified plastic surgeon from Honolulu, Hawaii. In this video, we'll discuss the second part of what you need to know before a tummy tuck.
🌟 Recovery Expectations: Many women who have had children wonder about the recovery process. The pain level is often compared to a C-section, though not exactly the same. Expect about 2-3 weeks of recovery time, during which you should rest, avoid strenuous activities, and follow a specific post-op protocol provided by your surgeon.
🌟 Activity Restrictions: During the initial recovery phase, avoid activities that engage your core muscles or cause tension on the incision. This is crucial as we repair these muscles during the procedure, and any strain can disrupt the healing process.
🌟 Pain Management: Pain is well-controlled with a variety of medications, ranging from narcotics to less potent options. Each patient receives personalized pain management plans. In surgery, I inject a long-acting local anesthetic mixed with a steroid, which helps minimize pain for 12-20 hours post-op. This initial relief significantly improves the patient's immediate post-surgery experience.
🌟 Post-Op Experience: The first 2-3 days are typically the most painful, but with the local anesthetic and appropriate pain management, patients usually do very well right after surgery.
