Welcome to my first time trial tutorial! I'm part of a Mario Kart League online and I tend to put up some decently strong time trial times, so I figured I'd primarily start putting these videos together to help out the group. However, I feel like there's enough good bits in here to potentially help out anyone who's not already an expert at the game.
In this video I break down the coin lines, mushroom strategies, and NISCs for Mario Kart Stadium. It's a course that seems straightforward at first glance, but in my opinion is actually one of the more technically complex courses in the game. Definitely a good one to practice so you can surprise your friends with your greatness.
MAJOR TIME SAVES:
TL;DR: My build sucks, and the way that world record contenders do the mushroom cut is COMPLETELY different from how I do it here
Alright, so for those of you keeping score, you might notice that my time of 1:44.776 is about 9.5 seconds off of the world record, which is actually really, really bad by my standards. A decent amount of that time save comes from the fact that I'm just not using a very good build (I discuss why in the video). The other major reason is that the world record uses a super advanced strategy called motion glider.
The way it works is that after you go off the glider, you use a mushroom in midair, pause, turn motion controls on, and then get a god damned ridiculous gliding angle. I don't know why, but gliding in this way SIGNIFICANTLY increases your speed. Could I have explained/executed this in my run? Probably, but like I mention in the video, the point of this series is not to make you world record time trial contenders, but to help you improve your skills using things that can realistically be done during a race.
So while it's definitely a fast and very cool strat, it kind of goes against the point of what I'm trying to do here.
