Paul Bunich joked with a worker at a Hy-Vee store that he needed a winning lottery ticket. And that's exactly what he got.
The Missouri Lottery announced Monday that Bunich, 52, of Kansas City, won the $3.1 million Lotto jackpot on Dec. 8.
But it took another week and another trip to the grocery store, where he again urged a worker to sell him a winning ticket, before he discovered he already was a millionaire. On his way home from shopping, he stopped for gas and checked the week-old ticket stowed in his glove box.
