Receptor tyrosine kinases or RTK are enzyme linked receptors that are involved in signaling pathways. Like GPCRS they are also receptors but in receptor tyrosine kinases the receptor is attached to an enzyme unlike g protein coupled receptors where receptor is linked to G protein. Phosphorylation plays a very important role in activating the RTKs or receptor tyrosine kinases. Binding of the legand leads to the dimerisazation of the receptors in RTKs. The activated receptor allows the coming closure of two cytosolic domains of receptors towards each other.
