(16 Dec 2017) A Maltese-made Nativity Scene was unveiled in the biblical town of Bethlehem on Saturday as part of the holiday festivities in the city in the lead up to Christmas.
The Maltese crib, previously displayed in St. Peter's Square at the Vatican, contains traditional Maltese objects, such as a luzzu, a local fishing boat.
The large crib represents the smaller ones Maltese Christians place in their windows to remember the Christian tradition of the birth of baby Jesus in a stable.
The display was erected outside Bethlehem's Nativity Church, a shrine built atop the place where Christians believe Jesus was born.
Christmas this year is a tough one for Palestinians as it comes after President Donald Trump recognised Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
The Palestinians claim the eastern part of the city as capital of their hoped-for state.
