Mosquitoes use light to navigate to find their prey. They even use the moon and stars to find their way at night, in search of human or animal blood. A mosquito is more likely to home in on carbon dioxide produced by humans, pets, and livestock than a bug lamp. In theory, a bug zapper might light a female mosquito’s way right to your door.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐲𝐩𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐛𝐮𝐠𝐬 𝐝𝐨 𝐛𝐮𝐠 𝐳𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥? While bug zappers will not attract or kill many biting flies or mosquitoes, they do kill a lot of flying beetles and moths. They also kill tiny insects that are an important food source for songbirds. Scientists theorize that songbird populations have been affected by the use of bug zappers.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐲𝐨𝐮? Mosquito experts say that the most effective protection away from home is to use DEET mosquito spray. There are also all-natural solutions available that have at least anecdotal effectiveness in repelling mosquitoes. If you are hiking, camping, going to the beach, or attending an outdoor party, consider using a mosquito spray instead of taking a chance on bracelets or clip-on repellers.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐞𝐬? Around your home, it is advisable that you use an EPA-registered mosquito elimination spray. The best method of treatment includes a barrier application. This simply means treating the perimeter of your property and working your way in to cover all areas of grass, vegetation, and even mulch around your home. If you do not wish to use an EPA-registered chemical on your property, all-natural varieties are also available. The all-natural varieties are also applied to all areas of your yard. Each of these mosquito protection methods can offer protection of two to three weeks between re-application.
