Welcome back to our video series on language structures. I’m Anna DiGilio, and in this video, we will explore how to use semantic maps in your classroom to strengthen semantics. If you have not watched my video, “Understanding Semantics,” be sure to go back to that video and watch it first. It lays the foundation necessary to dive into these videos that focus on individual activities.
Today, we're diving into the wonderful world of semantic maps and discovering why they're such an important learning tool for young learners and readers. And let me start by saying, the research is very clear on the use of semantic maps: they are effective when it comes to student achievement. A quick search through academic journals and Google Scholar brings up dozens of studies that have been done to show the effectiveness of using semantics maps all the way from the elementary classroom through the college classroom. But before we dive in, we need to cover the basics. What exactly is a semantic map?
