Towards the end of his life, Dean Martin’s health began to suffer significantly as a result of many decades worth of chain smoking. According to legend, the entertainer started the habit when he was only 16 years old. By the time he was entering his 60s, this lifetime worth of smoking was starting to have an effect. In his 70s, Dean was diagnosed with cancer. This cancer diagnosis inspired the beloved actor, comedian, and crooner to give up smoking once and for all. Sadly, by this point, it was already too late.

Dean was fine with giving up smoking in an attempt to increase his lifespan, but there was one notable thing that he wasn’t willing to listen to the doctors about.
