STREAMER FLY FISHING FOR BIG TROUT... AND ACTUALLY CATCHING A HUGE ONE!
My goal for myself is usually to Catch a brown trout larger than 24 inches out east every year, but unfortunately I’ve just barely missed the mark on an occasion or two this year… meaning if I don’t catch one soon it probably just isn’t going to happen. I just haven’t fished for them as much this year, and then the historic drought really put a damper on things. But historically early fall is one of my favorite times of the year to chase the biggest browns. So I decided to go to some of my old stomping grounds to see if I couldn’t get lucky.
At some point during this day I broke off the stream in a tree, which was unfortunate because it turns out I had only taken one from Andrew when I left Colorado. So I decided to nymph as the day progressed. Which produce fish numbers but nothing large…. However I was determined to finish with one more good fish before I ended my day.
After fishing for a few more hours I decided that 20 inch fish was a good high note to end on. That 25 inch male brown is for sure my fish of the year, at least out east, and is a fish I won’t forget for a long time. I also learned that if you catch a fish like that in the first hole of the day you can comfortably go home and relax and not worry too much about what else the day would hold. Thanks for watching!
