"Debuting its first-ever performance with the Modést Orchestra is Lily Fowler’s two-part composition called “Arboretum”. Written for Synthesizer and Orchestra, its first piece, subtitled “Traveller”, is a thematic exploration of a video game setting in a future where nature and advanced technology harmoniously thrive. This world was Inspired by a video game concept designed by Julien Funk and Marcus Cheong. The musical form of “Traveller” has a narrative focus. It reflects moments of discovery through leading melodies that journey with soaring countermelodies and strong harmonic movement. While the word Arboretum is a garden that houses many types of trees, Lily’s “Arboretum” conveys a two-part compositional narrative that articulates the many immersive experiences one may encounter in an imaginary digital world through captivating musical ideas."
This work was commissioned by Modést Orchestra.
