Ingredients:
Filling:
4 tbsp unsalted butter
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 tbsp all-purpose flour
4 granny smith apples or 2 20oz can of apple pie filling
1 tsp cinnamon (I used apples with cinnamon already added)
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp salt
Topping:
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup heavy cream
2 tsp cinnamon or cinnamon/sugar mix
4 tbsp melted unsalted butter
Directions:
In a 10 or 12 inch cast iron skillet melt butter over medium heat. Add brown sugar, granulated sugar plus flour until sugars are dissolved. About 5 minutes. Add apples and continue to cook u til the apples have slightly softened. About 7 minutes. Stir in cinnamon unless using canned apples with cinnamon already added, nutmeg and salt. Turn off heat and set aside.
Topping:
In a medium bowl, use a fork to mix flour, 2 tbsp of granulated sugar, baking powder and salt. Gradually pour in the heavy cream and using your fork to bring mixture to a sticky dough. Scatter pieces of dough over the top of apple mixture in skillet. Melt the 4 tbsp of butter and brush over dough. Sprinkle with cinnamon/sugar mixture. Cook in oven at 350 degrees for about 40 minutes. Let cool and enjoy with ice cream.
