The float is the freely-tradable shares of a stock. The stock market is heavily based on the supply/demand model, and the float is the supply.
A low float stock is a stock with very limited supply. In most circles we could consider it to be a stock with less than 10 million shares. Low float stocks are likely to be more volatile, because it’s easier for those shares to change in price. Higher float stocks can move quickly too, but they need much more volume and buyers.
More traders may be attracted to a low float stock if it has news or a catalyst for price change. High demand with limited supply means volatile price action.
The great thing about low float stocks is every now and then, we see three or four of these stocks a week that will move 200 - 500% in one day. Sometimes, it can only take a few traders and questionable news alerts to make prices rocket.
Remember, there's always risk and reward in trading. Low float stocks move quickly, but they can also reverse just as quickly. You should be paper trading and testing these stocks, until your discipline is on point and can stick to a solid trade plan.
