Cleaning is hard for anyone, let alone someone who is blind/low vision.
Did you know that there are techniques in how to physically hold the mop??
I didn't!
Whether you're blind, low vision, have ADHD, busy parent who doesn't want to clean after long day of work, a young adult who never had to mop a day in your life- learning techniques to make cleaning easier is a wonderful thing.
I've learned that to best optimize my mopping strategy, to hold the mop close to my body and with 2 hands on the handle move slowly and in organized fashion. Using the walls as my boundary I can go side to side, hit the border, take a step back & repeat.
Holding the handle closer to my body make it less of a strain on my back & going slower means I actually will be getting the area clean!
My ADHD Brain HATES having to be patient; but because I can't reliably see the dirty floor I'm learning to slow down and make cleaning a much more mindful process.
Huge thank you to the @themiamilighthouse for taking the time to teach me how to mop!!
[Video Description: Using a TikTok trend sound, Monica demonstrates a proper method to mopping compared to an inefficient one she had used in a prior video. The captions used in the video read "How do you clean if you can't see?"; "Hold mop close to body & take your time"; "Cleaning isn't a race!"; "Your blind friends might have a cleaner house than you!"]
