(14 Sep 2017) City of Atlanta officials and more than a dozen technology partners held a autonomous vehicle demonstration Thursday to kick-off it's Smart City Project.
Using high-technolgy sensors and cameras, the coalition demonstrated how autonomous vehicles will be able to integrate the data and improve road safety. Some of the technology will help conventional vehicles as well.
The two main players in the autonomous vehicle technology featured were Applied Information and the coalition known as Together for Safer Roads.
The demonstration Thursday was a test road set up on North Avenue, a city corridor that has seen a 200 percent increase in traffic accidents since 2014.
Through cooperation with all partners, Applied Information used a smartphone app to connect with the new technology infrastructure to navigate the road in a Tesla sedan.
