From jewelry and sarees to sculpture and literature, there is art and culture in every nook and corner of Kolkata. In this episode we'll explore the city of joy but the Talkin Travel way. We'll head to some of the oldest establishments standing, pre independence era locations that still remain the same, Asia's biggest flower market, World's largest 2nd-hand book market and take a food tour on the quaint yet iconic streets of Kolkata at night.
This trip has literally been like walking into a time machine and time-travelling back to the 60's era. Vintage old world charm is what the city boasts of and losing myself in it for a couple days was nothing short of magical. So much to see, so much to eat, this video will surely help you nit-pick some of the BEST experiences Kolkata has to offer!
Locations visited (In order of appearance)
- Mullick Ghat flower market - Asia's biggest flower market
Can be super crowded during the day so try and be the first one to visit around 5 or 6am.
Once you're done, walk towards the ghat to get the best view of the Howrah from here
- Have Kochuri & Cholar dal for breakfast (any local restaurant will serve)
- Kumortuli - Area of potters & artisans
It's a 300 year old establishment and you can witness idol sculpting here. Try and go a month or two before Durga pooja, to watch murtis being painted
- College Street - World's largest 2nd-hand book market
Any book under is Sun can be found here, whether educational, novels, anything at all
If you go here, go with a book list that you may want to buy
Or visit just for the vibe (and of course, smell of old rustic books)
- Indian Coffee House
Established in 1846, pre-independence era
Still gives off the same vibe, including waiters uniforms
Try cold coffee / chicken cutlet
- Princep Ghat
End your day here with a quiet, calming boat ride across the Hooghly

- Victoria Memorial
- Drive past Eden Garden
- Nizam's Restaurant for kathi roll
- Balaram & Radharam Mullick for sweets
- Any street vendor for puchka / dahi puchka (pls monitor the hygiene first)
- Balwant Singh's Eating House for special kulhad chai
