A third Victorian Labor MP has resigned amid a branch-stacking scandal.
Cabinet minister Marlene Kairouz announced on Tuesday morning she would stand aside from her ministerial role while an investigation was underway.
“I no longer want these matters to be a distraction to the government. They have placed enormous pressure on my family and caused them great distress,” she said.
Ms Kairouz maintained her innocence, saying “I look forward to the opportunity to clear my name and am confident any investigative process will do so”.
It comes after Assistant Treasurer Robin Scott also announced his resignation amid the scandal.
Mr Scott was a close factional ally of Adem Somyurek who was sacked on Monday following allegations of branch stacking and of making derogatory comments about his colleagues.
