What is Misto™ Resin?

In Italian Misto means “mixed” or “mixed together." In this instance, it refers to the NEW unique resin mix of various colors, as seen with each of the pen releases in the Conklin 1898 Misto Collection. Mixing resins for luxury pens is a precise process that requires attention to detail for superior, aesthatically pleasing results. Creating a Misto resin starts with a high-quality liquid resin. After choosing suitable color combinations, a precise step-by-step mixing process begins. Mixing different resin colors is challenging on several levels: the varying opacity and translucency of the colors can interact in unexpected ways (making predicting the final color outcome difficult), high concentrations of pigment in the resin can lead to unpredictable color variations (requiring careful consideration of proportions), the crucial management of curing time is more difficult when working with multiple colors that may extend the resin's working window, and balancing the varying intensities of the different colors to achieve the right color balance. To successfully create Misto resins that our pen collectors and avid analog writers love, Conklin has to master the mix with painstaking attention to detail that helped shape the final outcome through a trial and error process.
