In a significant ruling, the Odisha High Court has directed the relaxation of the maximum age limit for candidates by six years for the recruitment of constables. This decision comes in response to delays in the recruitment process caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and is applicable to 1,360 constable positions advertised in a notification issued on September 22, 2024.
The Odisha Police State Selection Board will issue a revised notification to reflect this age relaxation, ensuring equal opportunity for candidates across all categories. The board will also provide clear instructions on how eligible candidates can submit their applications online.
The High Court emphasized that this relaxation is a one-time measure due to the extraordinary circumstances of the pandemic and will not serve as a precedent for future recruitments. The court, led by Dr. Justice Sanjeeb Kumar Panigrahi, reviewed over 40 related cases before delivering this decision. It also directed the selection board to adopt transparent procedures and ensure timely recruitments to address vacancies efficiently.
This decision aims to provide relief to candidates who were adversely affected by the delays, ensuring fairness in the recruitment process while maintaining the integrity of the selection system.
