Welcome back to Fishaholic, In today's video i will discuss how to setup a neon tetra aquarium. Neon tetra tank setup is a lot easier than you would have thought. Only a few things to consider before planning to start a neon tetra tank. A planted aquarium is a must for neon tetra and they should be kept in a school of 6 or more fish. In larger school, you might observe neon tetras crazy schooling behavior, in most cases it is in one direction. Add heaps of plants to the neon tetra tank setup and also driftwood or some other structure would make them feel safe. Tannin released from driftwood will reduce the PH and water condition will be near their natural habitat.
This species originates from subtropical and tropical areas of Africa and South America, typically from tropical rainforest rivers and streams. Neon Tetra are Omnivores, I feed flakes, mini pellets, freeze dried worms, both frozen & live food. Plants i have added in my neon tetra tank setup are hair grass, water wisteria, java fern, java moss and some other aquatic plants. Hollow log is filled with river stone and couple of nice pieces of driftwood have been placed inside. Java moss is growing well and will provide hiding space to all the inhabitant of the aquarium.
Neon Tetra Care:
Temperature: 20 to 26°C
pH: 6.0 to 7. 0
General hardness: 50 to 150ppm
Lighting: subdued lighting; a low watt fluorescent light
Neon Tetra Tank Mates:
In my aquarium, neon tetra tank mates are mystery snail and a dozen of red cherry shrimps. But you could also keep them with other peaceful fish such as other tetras, Dwarf neon rainbowfish, Harlequin rasboras, Bristlenose, Kuhli loach, Corydoras etc.,
Neon Tetra Disease Symptoms:
Difficulty swimming
A lumpy exterior
Restlessness
Loss of colour
