The Fiddle Leaf Fig, or Ficus lyrata, is a popular houseplant with large distinctive leaves. The leaves are shaped like a lyre (an ancient guitar-like instrument), or fiddle (hence both its scientific and common names) and they can grow up to 40cm long. One of the most attractive features of the Fiddle Leaf Fig are the prominent pale veins that contrast nicely against the dark green leaves.

VIDEO TRANSCRIPT:
This large plant we have here is the Ficus lyrata. Its more common name is Fiddle Leaf Fig due to its large fiddle shaped leaves. These leaves are quite striking with the pale veins running through them which provides great contrast. When choosing a place for this plant to be homed make sure you choose some of those bright not in direct sunlight. Also, bear in mind when watering it is quite forgiving but just try not to overwater too often.
As this plant grows in the wild it actually starts it’s life as a climber, starting up another tree for support. As it matures and develops the stem gets thicker and it becomes a tree in its own right.
