This is 5 Rupees circulating commemorative coin released on occasion of 2nd International Crop Science Congress. The coin was circulated only by Calcutta Mint in very limited numbers and isn't easy to find.

The 2nd International Crop Science Congress was conducted at New Delhi in 1996 with the theme “Crop productivity and Sustainability – Shaping the Future”. This conference was jointly organized by International Crop Science Society, National Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi.

The coin is made of Copper-nickel weighing 9 grams with 23 mm diameter circular.

On the obverse, Ashoka Lion Emblem with denomination below lettering भारत India सत्यमेव जयते.

The reverse of this coin shows the globe with crop all over it, flanked by “two sprigs of wheat” on the bottom and a “double helix structure of DNA inside the gene” on the top. The inscription “दि्वतीय अन्तऱाष्टृीय फसल विझान कांगेॄस” in Hindi is shown at the left half and “2nd International Crop Science Congress” in English shown at the right half of the periphery. “1996” the year of issue is shown at the bottom.
