Video transcript
P1 (person1): hello, who are you voting for in the local elections on 3 May?
P2 (person2): I’m not telling you, that’s between me and the ballot box.
P1: Well whatever you do, make sure you take your ID with you.
P2: Oh, so what’s that all about then?
P1: Bromley is taking part in a pilot to test asking people to bring ID to the polling station in order to vote. You must take either one photographic ID or two non-photographic – one with your address on otherwise you won’t be able to vote.
That’s something like a passport or driving licence with photos, or maybe a bank card; or a gas or electricity bill showing your address. Your poll card itself will also count as one, so keep it in a safe place when it comes in the post.
It’s pretty simple really; there are more than 20 different types of ID that you can use.
I did wonder what my mum might do, but then I read that she could use her Freedom Pass and that’s alright. You can get the full list on the council’s website.
P2: But what if you haven’t got any ID at all?
P1: You can apply for a postal vote, or you can get a Certificate of Identity from the Council
P2: So no ID, no vote – I’ll make a note.
P1: (Laughs) It’s good to know that the London Borough of Bromley is doing all it can to prevent voting fraud.
P2: Well they get my vote, and I’m off to check the website now.
