Internal impingement is a cause of shoulder pain in throwing and overhead athletes that occurs during maximum arm abduction and external rotation. It is caused by tightness of posterior band of IGHL and anterior micro-instability. The most common type is posterosuperior impingement which results from the greater tuberosity of the humerus and the articular surface of the rotator cuff abutting the posterosuperior glenoid and labrum.
