TMC Basirhat MP Haji Nurul Islam Who Defeated BJP's Rekha Patra, Sandeshkhali Victim, Dies At 61
TMC MP from Basirhat, Haji Nurul Islam passes away at age 61. He had been undergoing treatment for liver cancer in Delhi and Kolkata. Haji Nurul Islam defeated BJP's Rekha Patra in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He served as a member of the Bahera Gram Panchayat Samiti from 2003 to 2008 and then became a member of the North 24 Parganas District Council in 2008. In 2016, he was elected as MLA from Haroa in North 24 Parganas and won the seat again in 2021. CM Mamata Banerjee expressed her sorrow over his death and shared her condolences.
