In a cold climate, more heat is lost through the head than any other part of the body. It makes the right choice of headwear, critical. Over several decades, I`ve tried all kinds of headwear in the cold, ranging from bulky Beaver fur hats to wool beanies, but the ultimate system I`ve come across and that has become my "go to" system is a product made in Norway by Bryjne ( www.brynje.no ) and supplied to me by probably the best and most experienced Polar expedition outfitter out there, Nordiclife in the UK ( www.nordiclife.co.uk )
Brynje uses a unique mesh system of fabrics, they produce base layers and several other clothing products specifically for cold or wet climates. Check out the info on the Brynje site or on Nordiclife`s site. The suff does what it says on the box !
For me, this hat system of lightweight Brynje beanies combined with the balaclava they manufacture, has been tried and proven in some of the coldest conditions imaginable. I love how warm it is for its light weight, it dries really quickly, is non bulky, fits well and comfy and is modular so you can layer it to suit variable conditions.
If you want a guaranteed warm head in a Polar environment, now you know how and what to use !
