In his address to the nation on Sunday night, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the country has passed the third wave peak and that the overall number of cases has shown a decline.
This as the National Institute for Communicable Diseases recorded 9 718 new coronavirus cases in the last 24-hours, representing a 26.6% positivity rate. A further 287 COVID-19-related deaths were also recorded, bringing the total number of fatalities to 69 775. There are still almost 150 000 active cases in the country. The President also announced that the country is moving from adjusted Alert Level 4 to Level 3 of the national lockdown.
