The 10 Watt mode in either Channel of the Mark Five 25 works amazingly well for lowering the overall output of the amp allowing you to tap into more power section oriented distortion styles. This is especially useful in the CLEAN mode for authentic and traditional clipped and overdriven Blues sounds. Add in the lush three-spring all-tube reverb and you have an amazing recipe for touch sensitive, volume control-reactive, legitimate power section gain sounds.
CLEAN’s tighter and more accurate circuit maintains a more purring and defined clip compared to the rounder bass output in FAT. Both modes offer their own unique possibilities for Clean sounds, but the differences become even more apparent (and useful) as you push the Gain, Master and ultimately, the power section into overdrive. Tone, as good as it sounds, that you have to feel to believe!
Recorded with the Neck Position pickup of a Fender Telecaster through the CLEAN mode of Ch. 1 into two 1x12 Thiele cabs loaded with Celestion C90 speakers. Recorded with a Shure SM 57, Shure KSM 313 and the Mark Five:25 on-board CabClone. Mixed with varying levels of the mics and CabClone for each clip and mastered for optimized output.
