In legal advice I've often quoted this monologue on #deceit.
Khatabala, a 1971 comedy directed by Henrik Malyan (born Telavi, Georgia 1925-1988), is set in late 19th century Tiflis, Georgia*. The plot is simple. Lead actor Սոս Սարգսյան | Sos Sargsyan (1929-2013), speaking in a delightful Tiflis-accented Armenian, plots to marry off his not so attractive daughter with subterfuge, substituting Mher (Frunzik) Mkrtchyan's (1930-1993) attractive wife in place of Sargsyan's daughter.
Sargsyan's philosophical self-justification for his deceit is that this world is one of lies by all retailers and traders. While drinking tea he says: "As we eat, drink and dress - so to speak - as we sit or stand, lie down or walk, laugh or cry, we lie, lie and lie. We ourselves are misguided, have been lied to and lie." (my poor translation)
* Malyan’s film is based on Khatabala (Хатабала Խաթաբալա), a 1866 play by Tiflis-born Gabriel Sundukian (1825-1912), who also wrote the Pepo play in 1871. Some translate the title, khatabala, as quandary, others as hullabaloo, I have no clue what is correct.
