The road construction between Baghmara and Ranikor, costing close to Rs 1000 crores, has made travel to Rongara difficult, which is one of the best sites for eco-tourism.
The companies involved in the road construction, NSC and Nidhi Construction, have been found to be involved in illegal activities, and they have been killing two rivers, one near the border village of Rongara and another below the Chitmang peak, Gonggrot.
Despite the illegalities taking place under the nose of National Highway Infrastructure Development Company Limited (NHIDCL), it has remained a silent spectator. The first complaint on the illegal extraction from the river bed came close to a year ago, but the company was not stopped. Despite everyone being aware of what was transpiring, they refused to act.
