Shah Azizur Rahman is a former prime minister of Bangladesh. during the liberation war, he played a controversial role by supporting the Pakistan army.
birth
shah azizur rahman was born in daulatpur upazila of kushtia district.

previous political position in Bangladesh
as a student leader, he took part in the muslim league movement in the anti-British movement. he opposed sheikh mujibur rahman on the autonomy of east Pakistan (now Bangladesh).

role during the liberation war
when the liberation war began, shah azizur rahman supported the government of pakistan and opposed the liberation movement of Bangladesh and took the side of nurul amin, ghulam azam, motiur rahman nizami. in november 1971, he led the Pakistan diplomatic party at the united nations and denied the mass killing of the Pakistan army in Bangladesh. he urged other Muslim countries not to recognize Bangladesh.

location after independence
in 1973, shah azizur rahman was arrested under the brokers act. in the same year, sheikh mujibur rahman declared a 'general pardon' and he was released. shah azizur rahman, after the assassination of sheikh mujib, supported the indemnity ordinance at the instigation of khandaker mushtaq ahmed. before the formation of bnp, a party called the nationalist front was formed in 1978. shah azizur rahman joined the group with a part of the then muslim league. as a candidate of this nationalist front, ziaur rahman won the presidential election on june 3, 1978. later, when the nationalist front and several other political organizations formed the Bangladesh nationalist party, he became a very influential leader in this party. in 1979, when ziaur rahman was president, he was appointed prime minister of the country. shah azizur rahman was the first prime minister of the bnp government in Bangladesh. after zia's death, justice abdus sattar became president and shah azizur rahman remained the prime minister. in 1982, hussain muhammad ershad took power and deposed shah azizur rahman.

death
shah azizur rahman died in 1988.
