George Arthur Roberts lived a remarkable life. Born in Trinidad, he served as a solider in the British Army in the First World War, and as a fireman in the Auxiliary Fire Service in the Second World War. In London, he was a founder member of the Camberwell branch of the Royal British Legion and of the League of Coloured Peoples. In this video, I am joined by historian Stephen Bourne to see what we can learn from George's extraordinary story.
Stephen Bourne is the author of two books on the experiences of black Britons in the two world wars. You can buy the first, Black Poppies, here: [ Ссылка ] The second, Under Fire, you can buy here: [ Ссылка ]
