On The Urban Debate with Tanvi Shukla, today we talk of huge controversies surrounding the new Farm laws. The Supreme Court has finally formed a committee that the farmers are supposed to appear in front of you. This news comes in after vigorous efforts from both sides. The farmers earlier had felt like they were being shunned and their demands purposely ignored when the Centre introduced the new Farm Laws. There have been protests all around the country for the repeal of these laws. The Supreme Court recently interfered in the matter and expressed its disappointment in the way things were handled at the Centre and has finally formed a panel that the Farmers will be talking to. The question now is if the Supreme Court has appointed a panel then why do the Farmers refuse talks. Why are farmers hesitant to talk to SC-appointed panel?
Avik Saha of Swaraj Abhiyan raises an important question when he says, why are the farmers unwilling to speak to this committee?, He also feels, the Supreme Court shouldn't have waded into this controversy at all. Its only jurisdiction was to determine whether farm laws are within the constitutional rights of Central govt or not. Instead, it started getting into protests.
Lalit Patil Bahale of Shetkari Sanghatana also added that we should forget the government at least farmers should engage with the farmers. Why is there a difference of opinion, why are we saying that these are good.
