This is NOT A TUTORIAL by any means, just a quick explanation. Little backstory;
If you removed your mid mufflers on a RT/Scat Pack/Hellcat and have the active exhaust but noticed a high pitch squeak or a rattle right after, this is what I found to be the fix. The rattle was DRAMATICALLY loud, the squeak was embarrassing. Took it to the dealer a couple times and they just couldn’t find anything. Smacked around the exhaust for over a year now trying to find maybe a loose hanger or heat shield, nothing. Nada. Solid as hell. I thought the noise might have been a belt (I never heard it outside the cabin) until I remote started it standing next to the vehicle and heard it clear as day near the rear wheels. Why? Well, on startup the little motors for the active exhaust do a little full range sweep. Here’s what I did to fix both issues:
Remove the 3 - 8mm nuts around the outside of the motor housing and disconnect the wire running to it. You’ll notice the little spring might pop out right away - don’t worry, it’s super easy to put back in. With the motor housing removed you can feel/see the little flap in the exhaust and can move it from open to close with your fingers. Using a lubricant, spray the point of rotation (or really just kill it with lube) and move the flap, and repeat a couple times to ensure you covered it all. Push the spring back onto the motor housing (it fits snug/kinda clips in there) and adjust the housing back onto the 3 bolts. Both hands is the easiest way. Reconnect the wire and boom you’re done! If you didn’t align the spring with the flap, that’s okay. It’ll reattach after the next startup calibration.
There are also a few holes in the outside of the housing that you can point a lubricant straw into to spray, but this method ensures you coated everything with lubricant.
Hope this helps you! It drove me insane for a year and a half now.
