Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan has ruled out reopening the border in time for Christmas.
It means the hard border will remain indefinitely for higher risk states like New South Wales and Victoria.
The spotlight was put on Mr McGowan after Queensland revealed their reopening roadmap.
He says measures won't be eased until sometime next year.
WA also announced Queensland will be reclassified as very low risk from Friday onwards.
It means travellers from the Sunshine state will no longer have to quarantine upon arrival.
