Great drill guide
Compared to the other guide I purchased through Amazon, this one is so superior that placing it in the same category as the one from General seems an insult. This one is almost totally metal, very little run-out, and has detentes to help it lock the settings in tight. The base is plastic, but seems pretty rugged. The angle settings are a little difficult to change, but how often do you change that setting? The solid lock after getting it set is worth the extra setup time. It has a much longer travel than the General. It would be nice if there were an easier way to clamp it down while drilling angled holes, but the General had the same "issue" and both units have screw holes that would allow a user fabricated base to be added. This model seems to center up better than the General, but that could have more to do with the extreme amount of play in the General and less to do with the quality of the base. The only real negative that I saw was that the carriage locking screw was not captive. You will need to remove it when it is not needed else it will vibrate loose when the guide is in use. I think tying a string between it and the guide to prevent losing it would be an acceptable fix. The General was pretty much ragged out before I finished the project for which it was purchased, drilling holes for balusters. The Milescraft finished up the project (over half of the project) and still looks brand new other than the scratches caused by the locking screw and my own stupidity. It would be nice if there was an optional 1/2" chuck available.
