"Conception of Self-help Groups and Experiences of CORD”, a conversation with Dr. Kshama Metre, National Director and Trustee of the Chinmaya Organisation for Rural Development (CORD), India.
Dr. Kshama Metre joins UNU Rector David M. Malone for a conversation exploring the term ‘self-help group’ and the diverse ways SHGs have empowered the poor globally, particularly women. From the perspective of CORD’s more than two decades of experience building SHGs in India, the conversation looks at the roles of SHGs in the provision of services that rely on social rather than physical collateral, and why this approach has been acclaimed worldwide.
