Opening of Santa Barbara Greek festival at Oak Park with a Syrtos!! OPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Syrtos (Greek: Συρτός, also sirtos). Syrtos, along with its relative kalamatianos is one of the most popular dances throughout Greece and are frequently danced by Greeks and various nationalities worldwide. They are very popular in social gatherings, weddings and festivals. Syrtos and kalamatianos are line dances, done with the dancers in a curving line holding hands.
The Annual Santa Barbara Greek festival was sponsored by Santa Barbara Greek Orthodox church. The Festival was Great with dancing to the music of Synthesi which consisted of Peter D. on Organ and Louie S. on Bouzouki, and Peter L. on DJ during band breaks, performances were outstanding by "Thavma Greek Dance Group", the Greek Gourmet variety Foods and Pastries were delicious as always, also Spirits were served, they had an Agora – Market place with a variety of Greek food items and other goodies and various merchants displaying their specialty, whether it was jewelry or clothes. Friendly locals and visitors alike were very pleasant to talk and dance with, weather started cool, but eventually warmed up and turned out to be an Fantastic day of Kefi (Spirit of Joy), also they had kid’s games and allowed pet owners to bring their pets. An event for an entire family to enjoy!!!
