A girl from Hyderabad and she is 6.2 feet tall, not only tall by her height but the star also stands tall when it comes to the world of badminton. She is India’s best doubles player and she is only limited to the doubles category of the game. She has brought glory to the country many times and made the nation proud.
She is a left handed badminton player and has won the national championship for 6 consecutive years. She was born on 7 September 1983 in Wardha, Maharashtra. Her father is Indian and her mother is Chinese. She started playing badminton when she was just 6. She lifted the Mini National Badminton Championship trophy when she was just 11. Then at the age of 17 she lifted Junior National Badminton Championship. In the year 2000 she won both senior and junior National Women’s Doubles Championship. She won the title for 6 more continuous years.
She reached to the semi-final of India Asia Satellite tournament in 2002 & 2004 and finished runner-up at Toulouse Open in the year 2004. She won at the Pakistan International Challenge tournament and the Indian International Challenge tournament in the same year 2004. She achieved all the success with her partner Shruti. But due to compatibility issues she had to split from her. She then started playing with Ashwini Ponnappa and they won Gold medal in the Commonwealth games 2010 and made history as they were the first team to achieve gold in that category for the Indian side. They both also clinched bronze medal at the World Badminton Championship making history again as no Indian Women pair ever won that title. She has won many more titles and has always made the country proud.
Jwala is also counted amongst the top 10 Sport women of the country. In the year 2012 after the London Olympics she took rest from the game and then came back in the year 2013 for the Indian Badminton League (IBL). The league removed the category of Women’s doubles because of which the price of both the players went to 50% of the value when they were standing as a pair. This caused a huge upset and after the tournament the players got re united and started playing together again. They still hunt big fishes and are looking forward for the upcoming international battles.
Jwala in an interview said "We thought big wins would wake up concerned people but it hasn't happened yet. We are still confident of representing India at an international level but here, extra support is needed as we can't afford it on our own.”
She wants Indian women to go out and start playing badminton as today there are lots of badminton academies in India as well as lots of Badminton Coaches in India.
