Like many of my compositions as of late, the harmonic movement of this tune was fueled by a mid-morning free exploration at the piano. I love messing with parallel modalities i.e. keeping a constant bass note (or pedal tone) while changing the chords on top. The rhythmic underpinning in the bass and drums came from a thing I had sung into my phone, a few months ago, while walking through the mall. I've also always been inspired by the work of the minimalist composers of the mid to late 20th century such as Terry Riley, Philip Glass, and Edgar Varese. I'm very much into creating a hypnotic, trance-like environment and then improvising over that.
