Showcasing Scotland’s dance artists talking about how to make a dance film, how to choreograph for video, and how to make a music video with a difference.
One week to go until The Work Room's #InMotion18 new dance film series launches! They’ll be talking to artists about the process of making screendance and the many incredible possibilities when choreographers and filmmakers collaborate.
Later this month we will launch a new online screendance film series showcasing Scotland’s dance artists making work for screen. We have been commissioned by digital arts platform The Space to produce a new film series called ‘In Motion’. It builds on the Unveiling Choreographies screenings we hosted at the CCA last autumn.
The project involves Work Room members Katrina McPherson, Monika Smekot, Owa Barua and Lewis Landini, in developing and filming along with work from members Lucas Chih-Peng Kao & Kai Wen Chuang, Bridie Gane, Farah Saleh and Aniela Piasecka/ Stasis
The series includes:
- 4 works were created specifically for screen, commenting on subjects as diverse as Brexit, the uncertainty and stress felt when continually being forced to move house, women reclaiming the streets at night, and civil disobedience.
- 4 new films, commissioned by The Space, interviewing the artists choreographers about the processes behind making their pieces The artist interviews are being produced by Katrina McPherson, an award-winning director, screen dance artist and author of ‘Making Video Dance’.
All films will be available to watch online for free
These films highlight how Scotland’s choreographers and dance artists are combining film and dance to make powerful creative expressions about the world we live in.
The first film will be released on Tuesday 3 April and will be streamed live on The Work Room’s Facebook page @theworkroomglasgow as well as available to watch on YouTube A new film will be released every Tuesday until 24 April
