This Sunday, September 26, a huge sandstorm hit the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo.
The dust cloud reached cities in the west of the state and advanced towards the state of Minas Gerais.
Among the hardest hit cities are Franca, Ribeirao Preto, Arasatuba, Presidente Prudente, Jales and Barretos.
The preceding dry and hot days contributed to the sandstorm, according to meteorologists at the National Institute of Meteorology.
"The days were very hot and dry, resulting in gusts of wind reaching 92 kilometers per hour. Gusts of wind helped to raise dust from the ground. "
Deforestation further exacerbates this phenomenon.
According to experts, there are no forecasts of a repeat of the sandstorm in the coming days.
