Word lysosome derived from two words lyso (lysis:splitting), some (soma: body) so they are splitting bodies because involve in interacellular digestion. Lysosomes are originated from the golgi bodies and contain hydrolytic enzymes. The enzmyes that are inside lysosomes that synthesized on rough endoplasmic reticulum and then packed by golgi bodies into packets called lysosome. This lecture will cover detailed coordination between these organelles, how enzymes are synthesized on RER, how they are transported towards golgi complex and how they are sorted and packed.
Lysosomes are common in those cells that shows phagocytic activities, why lysosmes are absent in plant cell and all these variation are discussed well in this video. There are very important term such as "autophagy" "autolysis" "heterophagosomes" "autophagosome" are also the part of this lecture. Mostly students are confused between term autophagy and autolysis so I differentiate these terms in detail with example. There are a lot of diseases due to absence of lysosomal activities called storage diseases are also covered in this lecture. The functioning of lysosome is discussed in detail. I hope you will learn a lot from this video.
