Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel has accused the BJP of being "on an unprecedented witch hunt just to win one Rajya Sabha seat" in Gujarat in the August 8 poll. Patel is contesting the election for his fifth Rajya Sabha term. His comments came soon after news emerged that the Income Tax Department is raiding the residence of a Karnataka Congress minister who's in charge of looking after his party's 44 Gujarat legislators who have been lodged at a resort in the state so they aren't poached by the BJP.
