Very young children with HIV need to be diagnosed and treated as quickly as possible after birth. The problem is that the current treatments are not child-friendly: some syrups are toxic, have to be refrigerated, and the combination of antiretrovirals that need to be given can be very complex to dose correctly.
Dr Marc Lallemant, DNDi's Head of Paediatric HIV, explains how DNDi hopes to create a single product that combines all of the treatments at the right dosages, can be stored at higher temperatures and does not taste bad.
Dr Asier Sáez-Cirión from Institut Pasteur talks about the difficulty of developing a vaccine for HIV and current progress towards this goal.
