I first came across Ray Turner's YouTube channel late in 2007. I was immediately taken by his unique ability to mix visuals with sound effects. In those days when few frequented my channel, Ray was one of my first subscribers, and one of my first friends.
Ray mesmerized me. It seemed that he did nothing aside from create videos. Every week, and sometimes more frequently, a new poetry of sight and sound appear on his londonpenda channel. I began referring to this artistry as "Turnervision". For three years the output did not stop. He never repeated himself or his tricks. He was always doing something innovative; always evolving. He could see doors where others saw only walls. He would walk through those doors into rooms filled with new toys. But he never kept those toys to himself; he always shared them with us and our lives were evermore enriched because of his generosity.
I am sorry to say that I fell out of contact with Ray Turner. Circumstances changed, and, when my time became more limited, I though he would not miss me: one among his vast audience of adoring fans. But I miss him. I did not know that he was dying until I almost literally found out that he was dead. I felt that I had to do something, and so, when I had a chance to visit New York City, I knew what I wanted to do. I am not sure if Ray ever made it to the City of Blinding Lights, or if he would have seen it in quite this fashion, but I have carried his spirit with me, as I hope to carry it through all of my days.
