He was elected unopposed, Kushabhau Thakre took over as the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party at a time when the party is in power at the centre. The 76-year-old former pracharak of the RSS
was one of the founder members of Jan Sangh, the party from which the BJP evolved. Mr Thakre succedes Mr Lal Krishna Advani whose term saw the party influence go dramatically in many parts of the country. Mr Thakre obviously has his own agenda ready for implementation.
