Welcome to our journey across the beautiful state of Iowa, where we join thousands of cyclists on the iconic ride known as RAGBRAI. The Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, or RAGBRAI, is the world's oldest, largest, and longest recreational bicycle touring event.

The RAGBRAI's story begins in 1973 when two intrepid newspaper columnists, John Karras and Donald Kaul of the Des Moines Register, decided to embark on a cross-state bike ride. What started as a personal challenge quickly gained attention, and they invited the public to join them. To their surprise, around 300 cyclists showed up, marking the humble beginnings of a legendary annual event.

Every year since then, RAGBRAI has brought together cyclists of all ages and abilities to traverse roughly 400 to 500 miles over a week, from the Missouri River on the western edge of Iowa to the Mississippi River on the eastern edge. This ride is more than just a physical challenge; it's a celebration of community, culture, and the breathtaking landscapes of Iowa.

From its early days with a few hundred riders to today's event, which attracts over 10,000 participants, RAGBRAI has become a beloved tradition. It showcases the spirit of adventure and camaraderie, embodying the essence of riding together.
