Steamrail Victoria operated the 'Maldon Extravaganza' from the 31st of July to the 2nd of August 2015.
The heritage weekender special began in Melbourne, late Friday night with 1940s built K class steam locomotive K153 hauling the overnight train from Spencer Street to Castlemaine. K153 was assisted on the mainline by diesel locomotive T356.
Upon arrival at Castlemaine, the train was stabled before departing in the early hours of Saturday morning bound for Maldon on the Victorian Goldfields Railway.

The Weekender consisted of special operations between Maldon and Castlemaine on the preserved branch line consisting of double headed movements and night trains. Maldon based locomotives J549 and Y133 also featured throughout the tour.

K153 and T356 returned to Melbourne Sunday afternoon.
