Merry Christmas…Our Breaking News story this morning took place over 2,000 years ago in Israel in the town of Bethlehem. Luke 2:1-20 explains what took place…
The word gospel means “good news” and this passage gives the best news that the human race has ever received, the Messiah, the Christ has been born. God the Son became a human being for our benefit, namely, to save us from the penalty of our sins.
On that particular day, so long ago, the world was given hope. Hope that tells us that not only this life has meaning, but also this life is not all that there is. Indeed, there is a life to come for all of those who put their trust in Jesus Christ as Savior…
On a personal note… back in 1970 when I spent my first Christmas as a believer in Jesus, I had an eye-opening experience while singing one the hymns of Christmas, the song O Little Town of Bethlehem.
As the congregation was singing the words, O little town of Bethlehem how still we see thee lie, above thy deep and dreamless streets the silent stars go by…
we then came to the last line… and, as I sang it, I began to cry…because for the first time, I finally understood what it meant…
… Yet in thy dark streets shineth an everlasting light, the hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight.
All my hopes, all my fears, were now met, because I had personally, by faith, met our Savior Jesus Christ.
I trust each of you can say the same thing…
Merry Christmas…
